EVERETT — Everett-born electric bassist Carol Kaye, who turned 90 recently, is officially being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for her lifetime of work.
Originally a jazz guitarist, she joined The Wrecking Crew group of go-to L.A. studio musicians through most of the 1960s, and continued for decades after as a successful independent musician and bass guitar educator.
You’ve heard her work at least once from the estimated 10,000 recordings she’s on. These include acoustic guitar in “La Bamba,” the prominent bass line on Sonny & Cher’s “The Beat Goes On,” the Beach Boys’ oldies as well as The Monkees, the theme song to “M*A*S*H,” the TV themes of “Mission: Impossible,” “The Streets of San Francisco,” “Kojak,” the main theme to “Shaft,” plus some Simon & Garfunkel.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is inducting Kaye on a Musical Excellence Award. The ceremony will be Saturday, Nov. 8 in Los Angeles.
