Former Monroe High teacher arrested second time on rape, sexual misconduct charges related to second underage student

MONROE — Police arrested a former Monroe High English teacher a second time Thursday, May 1 on new sexual assault allegations involving another student which began in late 2018 until her graduation in an unknown year.
Last summer, county prosecutors filed probable cause charges against Giles Stanton of two felony charges of sexual misconduct with a minor. The charges said Stanton had intercourse with one of his students when she was underage.
This time, police arrested Stanton on one charge of rape and two cases of sexual misconduct with a minor. The arrest came after a police investigation saying he initiated interaction and formed a sexual relationship with the student during school hours while she was under the age of 18. It ended when she moved out of state, but they kept in touch, according to Monroe Police.
While he has not been arraigned on these charges, the Tribune is naming him because he had been charged on the previous case co-related to the same crime.
The sexual encounters happened both on the school grounds and elsewhere, Monroe Police said in a news release.
The arrest went without incident.
“This is a very disturbing case involving a pattern of a person in a position of trust who betrayed young women,” Police Chief Jeff Jolley said in a police news release. “Thanks does not seem sufficient to say to these victims whose bravery helped us make yesterday’s arrest.”
Stanton has been accused of cultivating sexual relationships with students from class since at least 2017, including one as late as fall 2023. At the time when he was an arrested in early 2024, Monroe Schools placed him on administrative leave.
Stanton resigned from the Monroe School District at the end of November 2024.
