Everett softball takes districts

Everett Seagulls’ Isa Davis jumps in celebration after scoring one of the Seagulls’ six runs in the second inning of the District 1 title game between the Seagulls and the Snohomish Panthers at Phil Johnson Ballfields in Everett on Thursday, May 16. Everett dominated 10-0. The upset Panthers had entered the game having won 13 straight and taking the Wesco 3A League title a week earlier with a 16-5 regular season record (15-0 in league play), but struggled against the Seagulls. Everett freshman pitcher Mia Hoekendorf pitched a no-hit five innings and gave up eight walks to lead the Seagulls. Both teams head to the State 3A tournament in Lacey this week. Also going to State are the Cascade Bruins, who won an 8-7 extra inning game over Meadowdale, and the Monroe Bearcats, who took a 10-3 win to clinch the league’s final berth to go to State.
