EVERETT — Leaders in Snohomish County government announced Monday, Aug. 8 the intent to buy the Days Inn hotel next to the Everett Mall to convert to time-limited, bridge housing to give shelter to homeless individuals. It will be a placeholding site for unsheltered people who are on a path to permanent housing.
There will be a public hearing at the Wednesday, Aug. 17 meeting County Council, where the council will be asked to approve the deal. The purchase is funded with money the county received from the American Rescue Plan Act, a one-time federal funding source from the pandemic.
At the Days Inn, individuals would have access to wraparound services, including food, hygiene, employment services, legal services, and mental health and substance use disorder services. The facility will also have 24/7 on-site staffing and services.
The county says it plans to buy additional properties in the coming weeks, with Council approval.
The county has been working to obtain at least one hotel for this plan for more than a year.
