Two people injured in four-vehicle crash on U.S. 2 Thursday

SNOHOMISH — A multi-injury collision on U.S. 2 on the stretch east of Roosevelt Road drew firefighters and aid cars from two agencies Thursday afternoon.
The Washington State Patrol reports two drivers were injured. Four vehicles and a towing trailer were involved overall.
The Patrol says it began when an 18-year-old driver from Carnation towing a trailer rear-ended a Lake Stevens driver who was stopped for traffic on a straight stretch of eastbound U.S. 2 just past the "alert today, alive tomorrow" sign. After hitting that Jeep Cherokee, the Carnation driver's Ford Explorer went into the opposite lanes where it hit a Chevy Equinox SUV heading westbound, creating a blocked road. A fourth vehicle that was heading west, a Chevy Colorado pickup truck, was struck.
The drivers of the Explorer and the Equinox were injured and transported to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.
The highway was blocked for upwards of three hours.
The crash totaled three of the vehicles and the trailer.
The Patrol said the cause was going too fast for conditions.
Snohomish Fire District 4 and Snohomish Regional Fire and Rescue responded.
