To the Editor:
Drones supplementing (not replacing) EPD’s responding officers is GREAT! (Story in April 16 Tribune).
What rational citizen doesn’t welcome more police patrols, Flock cameras or drones? The more coverage the better. Had these technologies existed in 1992, damage and heartache resulting from my crimes would’ve been mitigated almost immediately.
Insouciant, outgoing Councilwoman Liz Vogeli, whose 4th district is overrun with crime (another reality ignored by local media), expressed “concern” that drone deployment would further erode “many of our civil liberties.” How so, particularly?
What have been erased in today’s Everett are law and order.
Taxpayer subsidies of malign activities didn’t happen overnight. Societal harms stemming from the progressive snowjob are obvious, the denigration of law enforcement insufferable, and the price paid, as usual, by law abiding citizens.
Policymakers emboldening unrepentant, recalcitrant thugs are bad enough. Positioning themselves against proactive surveillance, pragmatic law (including immigration) enforcement, and facial recognition capabilities is outrageous.
Abysmal behavior is its own bullseye. Cops solve crime through apolitical, relevant intelligence that, absolutely, “targets” those committing the crime. No one’s being unnecessarily harassed or “picked on by the cops.” Give me a break. Stop acting a fool in public. Don’t break the law.
