The Everett AquaSox punched its ticket to the High-A Northwest League championship game by winning 8-3 against the Spokane Indians Thursday, June 19 in Spokane’s Avista Stadium.
The Sox scored four points in the first inning, including two home runs, making it 4-0. Everett increased its lead to 7-0 in the top of the third inning before Spokane picked up scores to make it 7-3. Spokane went scoreless the remainder of the game, while the AquaSox’s Lazaro Montes made a home run in the seventh inning. It was Montes’ second home run in that evening’s game. Montes is considered a prospect for the Seattle Mariners. Everett left fielder Charlie Pagliarini and second baseman Michael Arroyo gave the team the other two home runs.
The AquaSox won four of the six games against the Indians in their series.
The league now turns to the second half of the series.
The AquaSox began a six-game series against the Eugene Emeralds on Tuesday that runs until Sunday. All games of the Eugene-Everett series will be played in Everett at Funko Field, and all but Sunday’s game start at 7:05 p.m.
The AquaSox, as winner of the first half, and the later winner of the second-half series game will go on to play the championship game at the end of the season.
The team stood 38-31 overall for its season as of Sunday, June 22. The AquaSox and the
Vancouver Canadians top the standings overall. The Canadians were 38-30 as of June 22.
