To the Editor:
In a June 11th Tribune article, Brian Mills, chairman of the Fire District 4 board of commissioners, wisely stated a merger of FD4 and Snohomish Regional Fire Rescue districts “makes sense” and the board should weigh “the opportunities that exist right now.”
Retiring SRFR District Chief Kevin O’Brien also stated “These districts (FD4 and SRFR) need to do this; it totally makes sense for the community.”
As I wrote in my March 26th Tribune letter, “SRFR surrounds FD4 with stations in Monroe, Lake Stevens, and Clearview. Merging would produce economies of scale and provide better service at a lower cost by eliminating duplicative overhead and administrative costs.”
This new information of a pending, cost-saving merger precludes the need for another property tax increase; especially after a large tax increase was approved less than two years ago within FD4.
Voters should reject FD4’s Proposition 1 August 5th ballot measure.
