Maple Avenue fire station roof may need to be replaced
SNOHOMISH - Snohomish Fire District 4 is waiting on roof repair estimates for Station 41 on Maple Avenue before determining whether to fix or replace the roof.
The Maple Avenue fire station was closed down in late October after some routine maintenance workers discovered serious structural damage to the roof support infrastructure.
“It’s not safe to be in there,” Fire Chief Ron Simmons said just after the station was closed. The integrity of the roof is compromised enough so that movement like operating the doors could cause the roof to collapse.
Fire board chairman Jim Schmoker said the engineers’ estimates should be ready in a matter of days. He expects the repair cost to be “a big chunk” of money.
The fire board is currently in the middle of budget discussions and will vote on its operating budget Monday, Dec. 16.
