Ex-cop pleads not guilty to sex crimes involving minor
MONROE - The former Monroe police officer charged with sexually abusing a minor entered a not guilty plea in Snohomish County Superior Court last week.
Carlos Martinez, 58, was charged with six felony crimes late last month and pleaded not guilty to all charges on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The charges include voyeurism, child molestation and sexual exploitation of a minor.
Martinez’s trial date was set for Nov. 22.
Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Lisa Paul will ask the judge this week to set bail at $50,000. The judge will make a decision on bail on Sept. 19.
Paul said she is concerned about Martinez’s current behavior toward the victim he is accused of abusing almost 10 years ago starting when she was at least 14 years old. In charging papers, Paul wrote that Martinez was using his private investigator’s license to harass the woman at her work place.
The victim is now 24 and no longer living in Washington.
