Everett’s big weekend of fun Aug. 16-18
Beer, food, art, entertainment all happening around town
EVERETT - Sip craft beers, grab a bite, take in a show and marvel at artists in action at one of next weekend’s events in Everett.
The city’s tourism group calls it the Experience Everett Arts Festival.
From noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, downtown plays host to the Everett Craft Beer Festival, where people can sample microbrews from 27 regional brewers.
The following day, 15 food trucks will take over Hoyt Avenue to offer a variety of street foods from barbecue to lumpias, a Filipino version of an egg roll.
Hoyt Avenue will be closed between Hewitt and Everett avenues for those two events.
All weekend, Fresh Paint will be going on at the waterfront with artists painting and crafting for festival-goers. The 18th annual free Fresh Paint festival runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturday, Aug. 17 and Sunday, Aug. 18 at the Port of Everett marina.
Some lucky hunters will find a free blown glass ball hidden on Jetty Island starting at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17 as part of the event, Schack Art Center spokeswoman Maren Oates said. For $50, people can make their own blown glass ball at the Schack during Fresh Paint.
Over at Everett Memorial Stadium families can tap their toes to top children’s musicians at PEPSapalooza from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17. PEPSapalooza, run by the nonprofit Program for Early Parent Support (PEPS), moved to Everett this year from south Snohomish County and more than 600 people are expected to attend.
PEPSapalooza’s lineup includes Caspar Babypants, Recess Monkey, The Not-Its! and Rolie Polie Guacamole. Family tickets are $30 for two adults and their children.
Details on all of these events are online at www.experienceeverett.com.
Experience Everett’s manager Sean Straub is expecting 4,000 people for the craft beer festival. Last year, 3,400 people attended the event, which is run by the Washington Beer Commission.
The event will be on Hoyt Avenue between Hewitt and Everett avenues. Free parking will be available at the EverPark Garage, 2815 Hoyt Ave.
Tickets are $15 in advance for five tasting tokens and $20 at the door. Additional tokens can be bought for $1.50 each or four for $5. A token gets you a 5-ounce sample of one of the more than 60 beers being poured by 27 breweries at the event.
After the beer festival, the Everett Music Initiative hosts indie rockers Deep Sea Diver and a mystery guest band for an 8 p.m. show in the alley behind 2812 Hoyt Ave. Deep Sea Diver is the brainchild of guitarist Jessica Dobson of The Shins. Tickets are $12 at the door and the show is ages 21 and up.
Straub is also behind the free Mobile Food Truck Festival, happening 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18.
Straub said he’s tried the food from almost all of the trucks participating and said they are amazing.
Some trucks have a big following in Seattle such as the Ezell’s Fried Chicken truck and Creole soul food vendor Where Ya At Matt, Straub said. Most of the trucks appear to be from Seattle.
The Everett Art Walk and other events are happening that weekend as well.
