Tickets on sale for Music Fest: Dare to Dream
MONROE - Keith Brock had just come from a friend’s house when he arrived at City Hall last month to give the City Council an update on the progress of this summer’s music festival. That friend was Blues Traveler front man John Popper.
“John’s really excited about coming,” Brock said. “He’s recovering from surgery and this festival will be the first time he’ll be performing since then.”
Brock, a Monroe native, is organizing the city’s inaugural Monroe Music Fest: Dare to Dream that is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7 at Lake Tye Park.
Brock and Popper are neighbors and have been working with parks director Mike Farrell to come up with a music-based event that has a little something for everyone.
The outdoor concert will feature blues, jazz, country and rock artists, as well as a beer, wine and food.
Brock showed off the newly created website for the event to council members late last month, which provides a link to purchase tickets for the event. The website is www.monroemusicfest.com. Farrell said organizers are still working out a few kinks with the website. Tickets are available for purchase online.
“I’m really excited about creating an event that will bring everyone together,” Brock said.
Tickets are $20 and all general admission. Seating will be in the grass and event-goers will be encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair.
So far, the lineup includes musicians who have played with Supertramp, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel and Carlos Santana. Popper will be the featured special guest.
The City Council approved spending $40,000 to fund the festival.
