YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day Saturday, April 27
EVERETT - Kids and their families can bounce, move and get active at the YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day Saturday, April 27.
Each local YMCA is hosting free events from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Everett’s will be opening its pool to the public.
Gael Thomson, the membership and wellness coordinator at the Everett Y, is always excited for the annual Healthy Kids Day.
“Every year it’s fun, it’s fresh,” Thomson said.
Everybody will be invited to play on Nemo, the Y’s giant 82-foot big pool toy, from 3 to 5 p.m.
“He’s enormous,” she said, “He’s very, very fun. He’s an inflatable whale and you can slide off him.”
The Everett Y, at the corner of Rockefeller and Everett avenues, will have an outdoor street fair, open swim and a Kiddy Doodle Dash short run kicks off at noon.
Kids who compete in the dash get a free ticket to run in the Hometown Heroes Half Marathon on West Marine View Drive the following day, Thomson said.
There also will be health vendors, a boot camp for families at 11 a.m. and a round of Zumbatonic at 10:30 a.m., which is “Zumba for kids,” YMCA spokeswoman Colleen Temple said.
The boot camp will have people stretching, doing crunches and jumping at their own pace. At boot camp, people move every 30 seconds.
“It’s pretty sweaty, but easy to follow for kids,” Thomson said.
Inside the Y there will be face painting, carnival games and a fish toss. Local groups including Everett parks, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Snohomish County and others will present what they’re offering this summer so parents can “make better choices and have ideas in hand on what kids can do,” Thomson said.
Community health groups will be there with free health screenings.
