Everett

Shooting
In the early morning hours of Christmas Eve, a man was shot and injured in the 1800 block of 18th Street. Everett Police detectives are still investigating.
When officers responded to calls of shots fired just before 4 a.m., they found a 20-year-old Whidbey Island man who appeared to have been shot in the leg. The man was taken to Providence hospital and went into surgery. Indications are that his wound is not life threatening.
A short time later a 22-year-old uninjured Everett man showed up at the police station indicating he was involved in the shooting.
Detectives have been interviewing the Everett man in an effort to determine why the shooting occurred. They do know that the incident occurred outside near the street. At this time the Everett Police Department cannot provide any further details regarding this incident in part because of inconsistencies in the information we received and the fact that they have not had a chance to speak with the shooting victim.

Domestic violence shooting
On Dec. 29, a wife told authorities she shot her husband in the head at an apartment in the 2500 block of Chestnut Street.
At about 5:30 p.m. Everett patrol officers were dispatched to the apartment on Chestnut St. after receiving several calls from neighbors reporting a couple fighting inside. As officers were arriving they received an update from dispatch that a woman inside the apartment called saying she had just shot her husband in the head.
The couple is married and live at the apartment. He is 42 years old and she is 30 years old.
Upon arrival, officers yelled for the woman to come out of the apartment and detained her while they entered the apartment. Everett Fire Department personnel treated the victim at the scene then transported him to Providence hospital where as of last week he was in critical condition.
The woman appeared uninjured. As of last week, no motive has been developed and no charging decisions have been made.

Man found dead inside storage unit after fire
On the morning of Dec. 24, Everett firefighters found a man dead inside a mini-storage unit in the 3800 block of Smith Avenue after mopping up a two-alarm fire at a storage facility there.
The man may have been living inside the storage unit that the body was discovered in. The victims identity has not been confirmed beyond him being an adult male.
While there is no indication that this fire is an arson, Everett police is investigating.
The Fire Department was called to fight the fire after a passerby spotted smoke and flames coming from the facility at 6:48 a.m.
Firefighters attacked the fire from the interior but were forced to withdraw from the building when it became unstable.  Firefighters continued to attack the fire from the exterior and a second alarm seeking additional firefighters was made at 8:20 a.m. Firefighters got the fire under control by that morning.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and at the time of the report there were no damage estimates to the building or contents.

Boat fire
On Dec. 24, Everett Fire crews responded to a boat on fire in the Port of Everett Marina. The boat owner was on scene and stated he had been sleeping on the boat and woke to discover smoke. The owner tried to retrieve a fire extinguisher but the fire already spread and he was forced to evacuate the boat and call 911.
One of the engines started on its own and would not shut off, possibly due to an electrical malfunction.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, preventing it from spreading to other boats or the dock.
