Beloved grandmother Florence M. Morehead, 104, of Longview passed away July 30, 2011, at the Hospice Care Center.
She was born March 31, 1907, to Fred and Minnie (Peak) Rucker in Moulton, Iowa. She was the second child and eldest daughter. Florence had six brothers and three sisters. The family left Iowa when she was 17 and she finished her education in Kansas.
After teaching for a year, Florence married John A. Morehead Dec. 27, 1926. They had two children, John Allen II and Betty Lenore. They moved to Snohomish, Wash., in 1937 where she made her home for the next 70 years before moving to Longview to be near family.
Florence was a hard worker. She was employed by a pea cannery and J.C. Penny's in Snohomish until she and John built a restaurant, The Chat and Nibble.
Florence was a great cook. She was also a gifted seamstress and gardener. She loved to crochet, play cards, solve crossword puzzles and play Yahtzee with her grandchildren. Her favorite pastimes were family gatherings and visits with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
Florence lived at the Delaware Plaza for the past two years where she made many friends and grew close to her wonderful caregivers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1982; a son, John II, in 2008; and a daughter, Betty, in 2010.
A graveside service is planned for 2 p.m. Aug. 27 at G.A.R. Cemetery in Snohomish.
Arrangements are by Colmbia Funeral Service.
As long as hearts remember
As long as hearts still care
