The Everett Silvertips brought back a familiar face when they announced the return of head coach Kevin Constantine on Thursday, June 13. Constantine, who was the Tips head coach from 2003 to 2007, is the team’s winningest coach as he returns to the Tips bench for their 11th season this fall. He led the team to four successful seasons including taking the WHL title in 2007.

Two of Everett’s Hewitt Avenue Historic District street signs sit atop a stop sign in front of the old fire station built in 1925. It is one of 29 historic buildings dating from 1894 to 1959 along Hewitt, Wetmore, Rockefeller, and Oakes avenues and Lombard Street. The district was recognized on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

More than 80 cars ranging in date from the 1930s to the present day filled nearly four blocks in downtown Monroe. Palmer, who lives in Sultan, spent nearly four years building his hot rod with his father Bill. It was one of the most popular cars at the show.

Firefighters from throughout Snohomish County converged on the west side of Snohomish on Monday June 17 as a three-alarm fire damaged an apartment building in the 300 block of Avenue J. The fire was reported about 5:30 pm and began on the deck of a third floor unit destroying several units and the buildings roof. Firefighters arrived to find the roof and attic engulfed in flames and quickly called for additional help from Lake Stevens, Monroe and Marysville fire departments as well as Fire Districts 7 and 1. Snohomish fire district Chief Ron Simmons said the it took firefighters 40 minutes to extinguish the fire which appears to be accidental in cause.

EVERETT – The bulk of the work for the Broadway Bridge replacement project will be happening next year, a city official said last week.

District won’t be changing school times

EVERETT – The start and dismissal times for Everett schools won’t be changing next school year.
The district determined last week it won’t change school bell times because it believes the state Legislature will provide more money for K-12 transportation next year, Everett School District spokeswoman Mary Waggoner said.

Developer proposes to build road into housing subdivision

MONROE — The developer of a planned residential subdivision next to the Foothills neighborhood has resubmitted its application to include an additional access road into the area.

Club will build railing for boat launch

DockSNOHOMISH — The Snohomish Sportsmen’s Club is working with the city to improve the Avenue A boat launch at Ferguson Park on Blackman’s Lake.
The club will build railings that will go around the dock on both sides of the “T,” club secretary and treasurer Bob Heirman said.
