The second annual Snohomish On the Rocks Distillery Festival is Feb. 1-2 at the Snohomish Events Center, 1011 Second St. Friday, Feb. 1 tasting is 6-9 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 2 tastings are 1-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Tickets are $25 and includes five tasting tickets and food samples. The Snohomish Education Foundation has created a scholarship in honor of Snohomish High School Coach Keith Gilbertson Sr., who passed away in 2011. The two college scholarships are open to student athletes. The goal is to raise $200,000. For more information, visit www.coachgilb.org. A bust of the coach is on the wall of the school’s new gym, which was named after him.

The lead runner passes by the Monroe prison while corrections officers cheer runners on during the second annual Jayme Biendl 5K run/walk Sunday, Jan. 27. Nearly 400 runners from as far away as Spokane and Walla Walla participated in this year’s event. Around $13,800 was raised to benefit the Behind the Badge Foundation. Biendl was killed by an inmate in 2012.

The eighth annual GroundFrog Day is Saturday, Feb. 2 at the gazebo at First Street and Avenue A in downtown Snohomish. The fun begins at 11 a.m. and includes free family activities and the famous Snohomish Slew frognostication. |
