EVERETT — The Early Learning Center (ELC) at Everett Community College will permanently close June 30.
On June 25, families will pick up their children for the final time, and the staff, who have been laid off by the college, will complete their last day of work.
A “send-off” is planned Wednesday, June 25 at 4 p.m. outside the Early Learning Center, in the 800 block of Waverly Place, Everett, on-campus.
A court case alleging open public meeting act (OPMA) violations was filed against the EvCC board and EvCC top-level administrative employees over the transparency of the closure of the center by way of the EvCC Board not conducting a vote or public hearing to close the center. Instead, they deferred to EvCC’s decision. At a meeting, a board representative read a prepared statement handed by administration.
Jenny Marin, EvCC spokeswoman, declined comment. The college does not comment on pending litigation.
