One furry grape wins it all

Molly Stuller of Marysville puts the finishing touches on her toy poodle Charmin’s costume during the best dressed dog contest at Mutt Strutt in Everett. Charmin won the contest dressed as a bunch of grapes. At Mutt Strut, dogs, and owners, competed in events that included jumping, disc catching and longest tail. There were also racing competitions. The ninth annual event was sponsored by Everett Parks and Recreation, along with the Everett Animal Shelter. It was held at Langus Riverfront Park for the second consecutive year.

Two-year-old Christopher Saffell of Granite Falls pets Skylar, a two-week-old calf Aug. 27 in the petting farm at the 102nd annual Evergreen State Fair in Monroe. Daily activities will continue at the fairgrounds through Sept. 6.

Snohomish Police aim to eliminate heroin, pill dealers off the streets to squash a rising trend of abuse and addiction

suspectSNOHOMISH — A crackdown on heroin and OxyContin dealers led to three separate arrests in one day last week. Snohomish Police have caught four dealers in the past two weeks.
The series of arrests is part of Chief John Turner’s push to eliminate drugs in the community.

City budget saddled with $500k deficit

SNOHOMISH — Because of falling revenue, the city has a more than $500,000 deficit to overcome next year. The city is projected to spend $1 million more than it will earn in 2011, but the city only has $480,000 left in its piggy bank.
Fixing the hole could mean less services, or less people working for the city.
