Kla Ha Ya Days fills downtown Snohomish streets July 18-22. The five-day festival features eating contests, soap box races, frog jumps, car shows, a parade, music and plenty of food. Festival guides available on the Tribune’s website and at shops around town.

Sawyer Hiatt, 3, of Shoreline pets a baby goat Friday, July 13 at the Forest Park Animal Farm in Everett. The popular petting zoo is open for the summer and features more than 50 animals including goats, pigs, alpacas, rabbits, horses and chickens. The zoo is open daily through Aug. 26. The park is located at 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd.

The city of Mukilteo is considering charging for parking at Lighthouse Park. The proposed fee is $1.50 per hour. The City Council is scheduled to discuss the issue at a council workshop Monday, July 30. READ MORE

Farms that have opened produce stands in the area include: Marshland Produce Market on Marsh Road west of Highway 9 near Snohomish; Stocker Farms on Airport Way east of Highway 9 near Snohomish; and Maltby Produce Market on Broadway Avenue at 196th Street south of Snohomish.

 

First Street/Avenue D closure update
SNOHOMISH - Week of July 9 – Contractor to install concrete crosswalks across First Street. First Street will be closed between Avenue C and Avenue D and between Avenue D and Avenue E (A detour route will be implemented). Also, periodic lane closures should be expected along Avenue D between First Street and Second Street but north/south traffic should be maintained.
• Week of July 16 – Contractor to install concrete crosswalks across Avenue D. (Intersection to be open for Kla Ha Ya Days events). Lane closures should be expected along Avenue D between the bridge and Second Street but one-lane north/south traffic should be maintained.
• Week of July 23 – Contractor to work on Phase 1 closeout items First Street will be closed between Avenue C and Avenue D and between Avenue D and Avenue E (A detour route will be implemented). Also, periodic lane closures should be expected along Avenue D between First Street and Second Street but north/south traffic should be maintained.
The city is installing a traffic signal and intersection improvements. The project is expected to wrap up early January 2013.
