The market opens its 21st season at a new location at the corner of Cedar and Pearl in downtown Snohomish. The market will be open every Thursday through Oct. 11. Spring hours are 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Serenity Webster, 3, of Gold Bar reacts after touching the fish she just caught Sunday, April 26 during the annual Kids Fishing Derby at Lake Tye in Monroe. Sky Valley Trout Unlimited sponsors the event, which attracts about 3,000 kids. The club stocks the lake with $5,000 worth of trout.

The incident happened at Everest College in the 900 block of Everett Mall Way in Everett. Nearly 200 people were evacuated from the building that is used by the college and other businesses. Fire crews couldn’t locate the source of the odor, and an industrial hygienist was called to the scene.

 


City suggests changing comprehensive plan to fit in Heritage Baptist rezone
MONROE - Heritage Baptist Fellowship’s rezone request isn’t consistent with the city’s comprehensive plan, so the city has recommended changing the language in the comprehensive plan so the rezone can be approved, catching the public and members of the planning commission off guard at last week’s public hearing on the rezone proposal.

City cracks down on home stuffing
EVERETT - Home stuffing is becoming a problem in Everett, and the city is cracking down on the practice.
Home stuffing is when landlords allow too many people to live in a home in order to make a quick buck. The city says the problem is on the rise as landlords are modifying single-family homes into multi-room units under the premise they’re operating a halfway house, which is rarely the case.

Schack, 1, transforming arts community
EVERETT - The Schack Art Center is celebrating its one-year anniversary Sunday, May 6.
It took years of work to get the Schack open, and it is becoming a recognized hub for the arts in Everett. Some credit the Schack with helping change downtown’s image.

SNOHOMISH - The Snohomish Farmers Market opens Thursday, May 3 downtown and will be open every Thursday through Oct. 11.

Leaked letter questions Swift payments
EVERETT - It took a document’s accidental release to prompt City Hall to discuss Everett Transit’s payments to Community Transit for its Swift rapid bus line.
A neighborhood group committee’s draft letter recommending Everett Transit halt payments for Community Transit’s Swift line “inadvertently” was e-mailed to some city officials.

Everett Transit meeting times set for next round of public input
EVERETT - Everett Transit has released the dates for four meetings to gather public input on the agency's final proposal for 2012 service changes. The final plan will be posted on Everett Transit's website by the first meeting date. Until then, the draft plan is available here. The City Council will hold a public hearing on the final plan June 6.
The four meetings are:
• Tuesday, May 15 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Everett Station, 3201 Smith Ave.
•Wednesday, May 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Everett Senior Center, 3025 Lombard Ave.
•Tuesday, May 22 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
