SNOHOMISH – Sarah Williams, her husband, Quentin, and daughter, Sarah, 8, paddle a canoe through the backyard of their Sexton Road home along the Pilchuck River north of Snohomish on Wednesday, Feb. 22. Heavy rain and melting snow in the Cascades early last week prompted a flood watch for almost all of the rivers in Snohomish County. While the Snohomish River stayed within its banks for the most part,
the concern in the Snohomish area was with the Pilchuck River. A number of homes along Sexton Road and Orchard Avenue took in flood water from the Pilchuck, and many roads in the area were closed due to flood water. This is the fourth time water has entered the Williams’ home in the 12 years they’ve lived on Sexton Road. Quentin Williams said he estimated the water was at least four feet deep in the garage and lower level of the family’s home.

Jeremy Levien of Sultan helps build his house during Housing Hope's second “Build a House in a Day” project Saturday, Feb. 25 in Monroe. More than 70 people volunteered to build the house that will become Levien's when it is completed. With the help of both skilled and novice builders, including a team from Westhill home construction of Woodinville, the single-story, four bedroom house was erected by that evening. The house is part of Housing Hope’s Marvin Gardens housing site off Currie Road. About two thirds of the labor is performed by the future homeowners and volunteers, with the remainder of the work done by professional subcontractors under the direction of Team Home Building Site Supervisors. |
