GroundFrog Day is Jan. 28

It may not be easy to be green, but sometimes it sure can be fun! Come see why, January 28, when Snohomish celebrates GroundFrog Day. The Pacific Northwest doesn't have to wait until February 2 to hear when Spring will arrive. The Snohomish frognosticator and all around fun frog, Snohomish Slew, will make his end-of- winter prediction and possibly even croak a joke or two.
Festivities begin at 11 a.m. at the Gazebo area at First Street and Avenue A in downtown Snohomish. There will be a Frog Kissing Contest for the tad poles and older kids will love the new "Little" Fear Factor Game. Guess how many Crickets Slew can eat in a year and do the Frog Hop with Tad the Frog, Slew's cousin from Kla Ha Ya Days. A crowd favorite, Community Transit's OxyGene, will join the GroundFrog King, Queen, Prince and Princess in greeting all of Slews fans.
Allied Waste Services and the Snohomish Chamber of Commerce sponsor the 2012 GroundFrog Day Event and many downtown merchants will be featuring green specials all day. For more information visit www.groundfrogday.com or call 360-568-2526.

Everett firefighters spray water from Ladder 1 onto a fire that damaged a century-old home in the 2600 block of East Grand Avenue in the Delta Neighborhood Saturday, Jan. 21. Firefighters were called at about 4:30 a.m. by neighbors who saw smoke and flames coming from the roof of the three-story house. The house, built in the 1900s, was being remodeled. Neighbors said no one was in the house at the time of the fire. Firefighters had the fire knocked out by 6:30 a.m. The cause is still under investigation, but damage was estimated at $250,000.
