Snohomish candidates running for office for council, school board and fire commission
SNOHOMISH — An array of candidates are running for election this year.
Snohomish City Council
Former Mayor John Kartak and Maygen Hetherington, the director of Historic Downtown Snohomish Association, are running for
the seat currently held by Donna Ray. Ray left it open by not filing to run again.
Council incumbent Judith Kuleta will not be facing Ashton Hobelman after all. Hobelman dropped out.,
No challengers filed against incumbent Felix Neals, just like in 2021.
Both seats are being contested.
Snohomish School Board
Appointee Sarah Adams is running to be elected for a full term. She’ll face challenger Sherri Larkin.
For another seat, the candidates are Rob Serviss, a swim coach in the district, and Tabitha Baty. School board member Sara Fagerlie
opted to not run again.
The school board’s seats are geographically elected.
Snohomish Fire District 4’s board has two active races.
Fire District 4
Retired Snohomish firefighter and Boeing tool fabricator Craig Erickson said he jumped in namely to challenge appointed commissioner Jill Gleason after she introduced a measure to study merging the district with Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue.
Erickson said he hasn’t formed a final opinion whether merging is a good or bad idea, but said it “has to make financial sense” to do so.
Gleason filed Friday to retain her seat. She was appointed in fall 2022 when Jim Schmoker vacated the seat.
Commissioner Richard Flath drew retired firefighter Brian Mills as his challenger.
