Dumpsters available to put leaves

Leaves

A couple dry days last week gave residents a chance to clean up leaves in their yards. Hired to clean a yard on Avenue A in Snohomish, Chris McCotter uses a leaf blower to clear the sidewalk. The city is asking residents to place leaves in three dumpsters located around town and not blow them into the streets. The leaves placed in the dumpsters will be taken to Cedar Grove Compost. Planning commissioner wins only contested race
SNOHOMISH - Voters overwhelmingly put Tom Hamilton on the City Council last week over opponent Marc Crawford.
Hamilton got 1,018 votes to Crawford’s 397, according to the latest numbers at press time.
Hamilton, the chair of the planning commission, said he was “pleased” with the outcome after he “spent time building bridges in the community.”
“There’s a lot of projects ahead of us,” Hamilton said.
He said previously he wants a city government that is “efficient, fair and accountable to its citizens.” He also wants to tackle the utility rate costs placed on residents, which he considers unfair.
Another priority of Hamilton’s is to open up more dialogue with the railway company that wants to bring a train into town.
In other election news, Mayor Randy Hamlin and Councilman Dean Randall both won re-election. They both ran unopposed.
Randall takes the seat vacated by Councilman Doug Thorndike, while Hamilton takes Randall’s seat.
Council-elect newcomer Greg Guedel, also unopposed, takes the seat of Councilman Swede Johnson. Guedel’s platform focuses are economic development, historic preservation and conducting “sustainable planning,” which means planning ahead so the city can control its growth.
Snohomish’s council makeup in January will include an attorney, a balloonist, an insurance company manager, two senior engineers (one retired), an artist and a homemaker.
